II. Academic Forgiveness
Academic Forgiveness is an opportunity for students to prevent D and F grades in certain courses from applying to their cumulative GPA.
Academic Forgiveness Considerations
- Forgiveness can be applied to prior courses with grades of D+ or below that are not applicable to the student’s current program.
- If the Forgiveness petition is approved, the original grades of D+ or below will no longer apply to the cumulative GPA. The mark of “FG” will appear next to each forgiven course on the official academic record but will not count towards graduation requirements.
- Academic Forgiveness can only be granted once in a student’s academic career at OCC and cannot be removed once applied to the student’s record.
Applying for Academic Forgiveness
- Students can apply for Academic Forgiveness after earning a term GPA of at least 2.0 in 12 or more credits consecutively.
- To apply, students should complete the electronic Academic Forgiveness Petition and include an explanation justifying their request.
- Greater consideration will be given to students demonstrating a significant improvement between prior and current academic performance.
- Approval is at the discretion of the Office of Registration and Records and the Scholastic Standards Committee.
