NUR 175 Introduction to Nursing Informatics

This course is designed to provide an introduction to informatics and technology in nursing practice. The course will trace the evolution of nursing informatics, modern practice, and future directions in the context of current healthcare issues. Concepts focus on the role of the nurse as knowledge worker in promoting safety and quality of care. Topics explored include current standards and mandates for nursing information literacy, incorporation of evidence-based practice at the bedside, and the future of telenursing, among others. Students will be afforded an opportunity to practice entering and retrieving data using electronic health record systems. This course is appropriate for any nursing student studying in an entry-level program.
