NUR 245 Psychiatric Client Needs I

In this course, students apply concepts of the nursing process and therapeutic communication with clients experiencing severe mental/emotional disorders likely to be seen in the acute care psychiatric setting: mood disorders and thought disorders. In addition, they learn assessments and interventions related to psychiatric emergencies: threatening/assault behavior and suicide. Time required for completion of this course is dependent on the individual learner; however, it is expected that students will spend at least 45 hours in study and classroom activity. Prerequisite(s): NUR 220  Co-requisite(s): NUR 240
