NUR 295 Distributive Care Clinical: Psychiatric Nursing

This course provides an opportunity for the student to consolidate theory and skills developed in previous levels, and to implement new theory and skills learned in the psychiatric client needs courses in settings not limited to acute care. The student functions in collaboration with members of the health care team within the context of community-based settings. The student functions interdependently to maintain standards, to develop relationships, and to assume accountability. The student applies the nursing process to perform assessments, select nursing diagnoses, and develop a plan for care. The distributive psychiatric clinical will involve the students in current issues of mental health as well as illness, giving them a sense of psychiatric care needs in our community. Students will spend a total of 28 hours over the semester in clinical practice activities; in addition, students will be expected to spend substantial preparation and follow-up time. Prerequisite(s): NUR 240 ; Co-requisite(s): co-requisites: completed and current health form on file, current CPR certification, malpractice insurance, and NUR 260 .
