ASL 101 American Sign Language I Credits: (3) Students will acquire basic American Sign Language (ASL) vocabulary and grammar skills that will enable them to effectively communicate in common and/or routine social interactions with a Deaf person. Conversational topics include but are not limited to the following: biographical information, preferences and opinions, coursework, family and relationships, leisure activities, and discussing plans. Students will also develop insight and understanding of the Deaf culture and community through exploration and comparing with their own culture and experiences. This course is designed for students with little or no previous knowledge of ASL. Upon successful completion of ASL 101, students may enroll in ASL 102 American Sign Language II .
