PHO 271 Alternative Photographic Process Credits: (3) This course is an introduction to alternative photographic techniques and an expanded investigation of various modes of photographic presentation. Students will study techniques and photo processes ranging from the 19th century to the most contemporary digital techniques with an eye toward adapting and combining various techniques for innovative personal expression. Students will be encouraged to move beyond the traditional presentation methods of photography and to devise presentation styles to match and augment their photographic content. Possibilities include: sequential imagery, collage and montage, mixed media, wall hangings, and sculptural and installation uses of photography. Class time will include lecture, demonstration, critique, and hands-on, in-class projects. Writing and reading assignments as appropriate to the discipline are part of this course. Students do not need a camera for this course. Prerequisite(s): PHO 100 or permission of instructor.
