ENG 225 African American Literature I

A reading, writing, and discussion course that studies literature written by African American authors. Students read poetry, novels, short stories, plays, sermons, and folktales in order to develop their critical appreciation of literature, as well as understand the unique condition of people of African descent living in America. The first semester surveys literature written by and about African Americans from the 1750’s to the 1950’s. Prerequisite(s): ENG 103and ENG 104.
