ARH 216 Design Studio 4 Credits: (4) This is the capstone design studio for Architectural design. This studio is a continuation of ARH 215 and will require in-depth analysis of design problems and higher expectations for design presentations. Students are expected to apply knowledge of design concepts and design process to “real-life” design problems. This class meets 6 hours per week. Prerequisite(s): ARH 215 or permission of department.
Learning Outcomes
- Apply design principles in solving “real-life” design problems, utilizing current architectural and interior styles and philosophies.
- Identify design considerations including: program, context, user need, and functionality.
- Effectively use the following elements of design: form, space, structure, materials, fenesteration, lighting (natural/artificial), furnishings and finishes.
- Continue to employ design principles, concepts, and elements of design introduced in previous courses.
- Present and communicate design ideas using a variety of media (i.e. pencil, pen, paste up and physical models).
