ART 105 History of Art I

This course provides a survey of painting, sculpture, and architecture from prehistoric times through the early Renaissance, with a consideration of major societal issues and ideas which may have influenced the development of forms and techniques in the visual arts.

Learning Outcomes
  1. demonstrate the ability to discuss works of art independently and critically based on visual evidence in order to discern works from different historic periods, styles, techniques and by individual artists/architects
  2. demonstrate an understanding of how cultural identities and pressures of history impact the development of art
  3. explore, either verbally or in a written means, how cultural, religious, and economic influences are spread across cultures by the physical migration of people, as manifested in art
  4. demonstrate an understanding of how advances in science and technology disseminate across cultures and the ensuing influences on the creation of art and architecture
  5. exhibit an understanding of appropriate discipline terminology
