ART 112 The Practice of Visual Aesthetics

This is an introductory course for non-art majors exploring the common themes encountered in the visual arts. Students will explore content in the arts through analysis of a wide range of masterworks and apply these studies in creating original artwork. Class time will include lecture, demonstrations, and exploring new mediums for expression.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Appreciate the forums and content of visual artwork
  2. Recognize the significance of a work as it reflects and effects history and how expression transforms relative to the social and technical influences of the times.
  3. Apply visual elements and principles to their own conceptual work, composing pieces, which communicate ideas and feelings.
  4. Explore themes imaginatively and in depth.
  5. Stimulate a desire to visit art institutions, venues and related lectures
  6. Gain an understanding of various art materials
