ART 123 Digital Design for the Non-Designer Credits: (3)
This course offers an introduction to the fundamental design concepts and software techniques used by graphic designers to produce printed communications. Students will achieve a proficiency in the software used for computer aided graphic design as well as in the process of organizing 2-dimensional space. This course may be used as an elective course for non-art majors only. No MAC experience necessary.
Learning Outcomes
- Create simple artwork in an illustration software application using the software’s functions, tools, menus and palettes.
- Create and edit a document in a page layout software application demonstrating and understanding of the software’s functions, tools, menus and palettes.
- Edit photos in a photo manipulation software application with a basic understanding of the software’s functions, tools, menus and palettes.
- Organize text and images on a page in a manner that demonstrates a basic understanding of 2 dimensional design concepts.
- Discuss and evaluate the class’s and the student’s own work as well as demonstrating an understanding of constructive criticism and self – analysis.
