ART 240 Advanced Graphic Design

Credits: (3)
Practical and theoretical design concepts and their application to advanced communications problems and multi-piece campaigns will be studied. Projects will emphasize concept development and portfolio preparation.

Learning Outcomes
The student will achieve a proficiency in communications design as it relates to real world applications.

  1. Identify and articulate a communication need based on supplied information and research. 
  2. Create artwork in a page layout software application with a basic understanding of the software’s functions, tools, menus and palettes.
  3. Identify and articulate the target market and marketing objectives.
  4. Extend a design concept through a variety of requirements and multi-piece applications.
  5. Design and produce comps of professional quality.
  6. Demonstrate an understanding of the purpose for a portfolio presentation. 
  7. Prepare a portfolio and the artwork presented.
  8. Discuss and evaluate the class’s and the student’s own work as well as demonstrate an understanding of constructive criticism and self-analysis.
