BIO 106 Human Biology Credits: (4)
This one-semester course with a required laboratory provides basic knowledge of the major organ systems of human beings. Emphasis is on how the body functions normally. It is intended for non-science majors and is inappropriate for students preparing for Nursing, Surgical Technology and Physical Therapist Assistant. This course does not fulfill the science requirement for Math/Science and Computer Science students. Not open to students with credit in BIO 152 or BIO 172 .

Learning Outcomes
- Describe the basic premises of the scientific method and how to apply it within everyday life, and the scientific principles of the medical examination.
- Explain key structural and functional attributes of cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems, and how these entities cooperate to build and operate processes with the human body.
- Describe the structure, function, and implications for health and disease of the cardiovascular, respiratory, urinary, nervous, immune, endocrine, digestive, and reproduction systems in humans.
- Explain the basic chemical events occurring within cells, how these events drive cell physiology, the concept of cellular respiration, and how cells use enzymes and chemistry to drive life.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of human genetics, nucleic acids structure, DNA replication, gene expression and the consequences of mutations.
