BIO 131L General Ecology Laboratory Credits: (1)
This is a field and laboratory course that explores the interactions between organisms and their environment at the individual, population, community, and ecosystem levels. Emphasis is placed on exploring ecological principles through experiments and activities that develop scientific literacy and data management skills. This course is an optional lab to be taken concurrently or after General Ecology lecture (BIO 131 ).

Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of the basic principles of ecology and evolution.
- Apply ecological concepts to modern day issues facing humanity.
- Formulate ecological hypotheses and generate predictions based on experiments and observations.
- Design experiments to test ecological hypotheses and critically evaluate experiments designed by others.
- Use data management skills to construct, analyze, and interpret graphs (e.g.: bar graphs, scatterplots, or histograms) in the context of ecological and evolutionary principles.
- Identify and discuss the ecology of common plants and animals in New York.
