BUS 138 Supervision and Management Credits: (3)
This is a practical course in the principles and techniques of management applied by first line supervisory and training personnel. Special emphasis is placed on plant operations, organizing, training, developing supervisors, evaluating performance, motivation, and supervisory leadership responsibilities.

- Define supervision and explain the meaning of the managerial pyramid.
- Recognize the historical development of the human relations movement and its impact on supervision.
- Describe the concepts of leadership and motivation.
- Identify the components of effective employee orientation and training.
- Recognize the nature of conflict and useful strategies for the management of conflict.
- Compare a variety of methodologies for appraising employee performance.
- Describe the communication process and methodologies to enhance its success.
- Describe employee counseling and the supervisor’s role in the process.
- Explain the phenomenon of job stress and change in organizations.
