CRJ 201 Criminology

Credits: (3)
This course examines the nature, function, and causes of crime. Tracing the evolution of crime theory from the 18th Century to the present, focus is placed on the application of theory within the context of contemporary crime control policy, victimization and offender treatment within the criminal justice system. Prerequisite(s): CRJ 101  or permission of instructor.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Define criminology and discuss its basic concepts.
  2. Analyze the impact that crime, law and the criminal justice system have on the American Public.
  3. Explain the nature and extent of crime and causes and prevention of criminality.
  4. Compare the public’s perception of crime with the true nature and extent of victimization.
  5. Evaluate the methods of treatment of known criminals as they relate to crime control policy.
