EDU 156 Guidance of Young Children

Credits: (1)
This course focuses on developmentally appropriate, evidence based approaches and positive guidance strategies for supporting the development of each child. An emphasis will be on supportive interactions and environments. The impact of family, culture, language and ability will also be explored.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Identify multiple influences including family, culture, language and ability that impact each child’s social/emotional development and behavior. 
  2. Explain the relevancy of positive relationships, collaboration, problem-solving and supportive interactions among teachers, children and families.
  3. Demonstrate effective approaches to creating a supportive classroom environment.
  4. Examine positive evidence-based guidance theories, strategies, assessments and tools to help children learn and practice appropriate and acceptable behaviors.
  5. Identify methods to construct appropriate guidance decisions in collaboration with professionals and families.
