EDU 172 Classroom Management

This course explores guidance theories, applications, goals, techniques, and factors that influence expectations and classroom management issues. The effects of culture and student diversity on the classroom environment will be explored. Classrooms serving children ages two to twelve years will be addressed.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Define the terms guidance and discipline. 
  2. Discuss the historical roots of the guidance and behavior management traditions.
  3. Describe the relationship between child development and guidance. 
  4. Analyze typical classroom management issues and construct appropriate classroom management techniques. 
  5. Identify the role of parents in the guidance tradition and classroom management. 
  6. Model conflict management and negotiation skills to solve social problems. 
  7. Describe culturally sensitive guidance and classroom management techniques.
