Manufacturing Fundamentals Microcredential

The Manufacturing Fundamentals Microcredential consists of seven courses covering fundamental skills needed for entry-level positions in manufacturing, facilities, or equipment maintenance. These courses stack directly into both the 1-year Electromechnical Technology Certificate and the 2-year Electromechanical Technology AAS degree to allow students to advance their education over time. Students can enroll in all 7 courses in a single semester, providing a quick entry point to employment. ELT 215 Programmable Logic Controllers

Credits: (4)

This course will introduce students to the basic principles that govern the function and operation of the programmable logic controller (PLC). It focuses on the common input and output devices that are typical in sequential and process control applications. Topics include: PLC applications, logic concepts and ladder diagrams, CPU, memories, input/output devices, safety issues, maintenance techniques, I/O and memory addressing, ladder logic programming language, design of relay operated process, and proper installation methods. Prerequisite(s): ELM 114 orELT 141 , or permission of instructor. Three lecture hours and a three-hour laboratory.
