FPT 157 Fire Hydraulics

Credits: (3)
This course covers the principles of fluid movement, friction loss, flow measurements and pump calculations. Applications are related to fire protection systems and apparatus used by the fire service. Basic water supply systems and limitations will also be addressed.  Fire apparatus pump operations is covered in this course and is designed to meet or exceed the NYS 426 standard for “Pump Operations”. Prerequisite(s): FPT 111 .

Learning Outcomes
  1. Describe the basic theories of hydraulics as they apply to the fire service.
  2. Apply basic friction loss concepts and calculations to pump operations and water supply scenarios.
  3. Discuss the components of fire pumps and their maintenance.
  4. Determine basic fire flows and pump discharge pressures given.
  5. Demonstrate the proper use of a fire pump and appropriate water supply procedures.
