IND 240 Residential Interiors Credits: (3)
This course is an introduction to design and decoration of residential interiors. Topics include design principles and elements, approaches, sustainable environments and materials, furniture and decorating styles, fabrics, window treatments, accessories, and business practice. Prerequisite(s): ARH 101 /IND 101 ,ARH 110 /IND 110 and ARH 170 /IND 170 , or permission of department.
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of sustainable design strategies and materials for residential interiors.
- Identify, compare and contrast significant furniture and decorating styles.
- Identify, compare and contrast significant types of upholstery, fabrics, wall and window treatments, and rugs.
- Apply critical thinking skills to the development of thematic design concepts.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of functional and aesthetic room design.
- Apply sustainable strategies to a residential interior design project.
- Communicate a well-crafted room design presentation both orally and graphically.
- Explain the role of the professional interior decorator including building client relationships.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of kitchen and bath planning.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of contractual agreements.
