Topics include: limits, instantaneous rates of change, differentiation, exponential and logarithmic functions, antiderivatives, indefinite integrals, definite integrals, and applications to business, managerial and social sciences. Not open to Math/Science majors. Prerequisite(s): MAT 115 or MAT 143 .
SUNY Gen Ed Area(s): Mathematics Designation(s): Liberal Arts
Learning Outcomes
- Calculate limits at both a number and at infinity and label and interpret instantaneous rates of change.
- Use the definition of “derivative” to find the derivative of a polynomial function using the limit definition procedure and find the derivatives of polynomial, rational, exponential and logarithmic functions.
- Use first and second derivative tests to graph functions and solve applied problems in the business, managerial, and social sciences.
- Find antiderivatives and indefinite integrals for polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic functions.
- Make predictions on cost, revenue and profit models based on marginal analysis.
