MAT 116 Business Calculus

Credits: (3)
This is the second of a two-semester sequence designed for business transfer and Computer Information Systems (CIS) students. Topics include: limits, instantaneous rates of change, differentiation, exponential and logarithmic functions, antiderivatives, indefinite integrals, definite integrals, and applications to business, managerial and social sciences. Not open to Math/Science majors. Prerequisite(s): MAT 115 or MAT 143 .

SUNY Gen Ed Area(s): Mathematics
Designation(s): Liberal Arts

Learning Outcomes
  1. Calculate limits at both a number and at infinity and label and interpret instantaneous rates of change.
  2. Use the definition of “derivative” to find the derivative of a polynomial function using the limit definition procedure and find the derivatives of polynomial, rational, exponential and logarithmic functions.
  3. Use first and second derivative tests to graph functions and solve applied problems in the business, managerial, and social sciences.
  4. Find antiderivatives and indefinite integrals for polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic functions.
  5. Make predictions on cost, revenue and profit models based on marginal analysis.
