PED 101 Introduction to Physical Education, Sport, and Kinesiology Credits: (3) This course is an overview of the history and foundations of physical education, sport and kinesiology. The various dimensions of these fields, including motor behavior, biomechanics, exercise physiology, sport sociology, health, fitness, sport psychology, teaching and coaching, are among the topics introduced. This course provides an introduction to the principles and strategies used to promote health to individuals, to groups in specific settings, such as schools and work places, and to whole communities. Students will develop a philosophy of the aims and objectives of physical education as a profession while beginning the process of personal career exploration and planning.

- Identify historical leaders and their philosophies in the field of physical education and sport.
- Discuss current and future issues in the fields of physical education and kinesiology.
- Integrate several philosophical viewpoints in the development of their personal philosophy of physical education and related fields.
- Explore and examine the possible career options in the fields of physical education, sport, health, recreation, kinesiology and athletics.
- Describe the principles of applied sciences of physical education, sport, and kinesiology.
- Build a body of knowledge to communicate the principles of physical education and wellness to the community.
- Demonstrate proper selection and analysis of research publications in the field.
