PSL 210 Team Sports: Teaching and Officiating Credits: (2PE)
An in-depth study of individual skills, rules, and strategy in the following sports: soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball. This course gives students hands-on experience teaching their peers sport-specific skills and drills along with practice at officiating in each sport. There is a dress code for this course. Prerequisite(s): Physical Education and Exercise Science Studies majors or permission of instructor.
Learning Outcomes
- Explain the fundamental elements of softball, volleyball, basketball, and soccer.
- Identify the rules for all four sports including the most common officiating calls.
- Demonstrate the ability to officiate in all four sports.
- Create lesson guides designed to assist the student in leading sport-specific drills.
- Demonstrate the ability to lead drills which focus on the basic psychomotor skill sets specific to softball, volleyball, basketball, and soccer.
- Present a professional presence when leading by following requirements for effective leadership.
