REC 102 Activity Planning I Credits: (3)
This course provides students with opportunities to develop, lead, organize, and evaluate games and activities for elementary- to middle school-aged participants. Behavior management strategies are emphasized as they apply to the developmental stages of the population being served. Students are required to compose lesson plans with outcome objectives and develop safety plans based on risk assessment. On- and off-campus experiences in activity leadership are required. Prerequisite(s): EXR majors or permission of instructor.

- Demonstrate, through leading, an ability to organize various games and activities.
- Demonstrate, through reflection, an ability to evaluate various games and activities.
- Illustrate, through activity planning, the ability to select safe, age-appropriate activities for specific populations.
- Identify and implement appropriate behavior management techniques.
- Demonstrate the ability to modify programs based on the physical, cognitive, and affective needs of participants.
- Articulate the importance of participation as it relates to the success of the group task and each individual’s positive experience.
- Compare and contrast the developmental needs, relative to play, of five to twelve year olds.
