SPA 102 Elementary Spanish II Credits: (3) This course is a sequel to Elementary Spanish I. It builds upon the basic grammatical, linguistic, communicative and cultural concepts learned in SPA 101 . Students learn to communicate in the context of an increasing number of daily life topics. Topics may include, but are not limited to the following: homes, daily routines, urban and commercial contexts, clothing and other belongings, health and emergencies, and the workplace. This course also fulfills the Global Awareness and Diversity (GLAD) requirement at OCC. Upon successful completion of SPA 102, students may enroll in SPA 201 . Prerequisite(s): SPA 101 or permission of instructor.

- Infer general meaning and identify key information when listening to a native or near-native speaker who speaks slowly and clearly.
- Infer general meaning and identify key information when reading authentic or semi-authentic, level-appropriate materials.
- Write in both the present and past tenses using familiar, level-specific vocabulary and grammar with sufficient accuracy to be understood by a sympathetic native speaker.
- Ask questions and provide information orally, including narrating events that happened in the past, with sufficient accuracy to be understood by a sympathetic native speaker.
- Identify distinctive features of Hispanic heritage and compare and contrast Hispanic culture with the student’s own.
