ENG 224H Honors American Literature II Credits: (3)
This course studies major American writers of the 20th Century. The literary works are viewed in their relationship to the cultural movements and intellectual history of American civilization. Open to Honors College students only.

Learning Outcomes
- Identify major literary schools and movements of the last 100 years in America.
- Describe the key characteristics of these literary schools and and movements.
- Identify the authors responsible for defining these literary schools and movements.
- Describe key stylistic characteristics pertaining to most of the authors we cover.
- Develop a piece of research concerning some aspect of American literature.
- Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills (including the ability to make effective use of the information and ideas they learn).
- Demonstrate the ability to analyze and synthesize a broad range of sophisticated academic/intellectual material.
- Display an ability to think in scholarly ways: to formulate hypotheses, research problems, and draw conclusions and/or explain how creative artists approach the creative process and produce original work.
- Publicly defend their intellectual work/product and the consequences of their ideas for themselves, for others, and for society.
