CRW 103 Introduction to Creative Writing Credits: (3) This is an introductory course focused on preparing students for the practice of writing fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and/or scriptwriting. Students learn to read as writers, develop an individual voice, recognize the craft of writing, and produce and critique their own and others’ pieces. Required of all CRW majors.

Learning Outcomes
- Identify, in samples of written pieces, the elements of given creative genres, such as narrative structure, image, metaphor, symbol, character, conflict, dialogue, the poetic line, and setting/stage directions.
- Assess and evaluate choices made by writers in creating written works in each genre.
- Use, in short written pieces, the elements of given creative genres, such as narrative structure, image, metaphor, symbol, character, conflict, dialogue, the poetic line, and setting/stage directions.
- Revise the content and structure of their own work using a variety of revision strategies.
- Recognize and explore opportunities for professional careers within the Creative Writing industry.
