FSA 215 Beer and Wine Pairing

This course is a study on wine and beer within the food service industry, pairing each of them with different types of cuisines, developing beer and wine programs, and understanding the cultural significance of each item. In each class session, students will be introduced to new types of beer or wine and have the opportunity to sample the products for taste, texture, and compatibility. Sampling product is not required for successful completion of this course.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Identify the different types of beer, focusing on flavor profiles.
  2. Identify the different types of wine, focusing on regional, varietal of grapes, and flavor profiles.
  3. Compare the historical and modern use of beer and wine in a restaurant setting.
  4. Apply knowledge of serving alcohol safely.
  5. Demonstrate how to purchase, store, and rotate beer and wine properly.
