ATC 203 Manual Transmissions

Credits: (3)
A thorough examination of manual transmissions/transaxles. Clutch operations, drivelines and differentials are addressed. Detailed power flow analysis for manual geartrains is provided in lecture with practical applications derived from laboratory exercises. Vehicle manufacturer service and maintenance procedures are investigated in lab activities. This course has an accompanying lab. Prerequisite(s): ATC 103  or CHQ 103 , or permission of department.

  1. Contrast various rear wheel drive systems.
  2. Calculate gear ratios based upon input/output parameters.
  3. Intrepret the operation of the clutch assembly.
  4. Diagnose clutch driveability concerns.
  5. Evaluate the inner working of a modern manual transmission.
