AET 161 Introduction to Welding and Metalworking

This course is designed to provide hands-on experience directly related to the the area of Welding and Metalworking. Hands-on learning is emphasized with information of basic metal properties and safe use of equipment. Through hands-on learning activities, students will come to understand basic metal properties and how to use equipment safely.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Identify various tools necessary to perform basic metalworking and welding techniques.
  2. Demonstrate professional work ethic.
  3. Implement safety procedures within the welding and metalworking laboratory environment.
  4. Develop basic skills using torches, welders, cutters, grinders, etc to manipulate metal as desired.
  5. Complete a basic project utilizing skills developed in class, including material list, sketches and prototype.
  6. Identify types of metals and associated properties.
