ATC 205 Automotive Powertrains

An overview examination of manual and automatic transmissions/transaxles. Clutch operations, drivelines and differentials are addressed. Power flow analysis for manual and automatic geartrains is provided in lecture with practical applications derived from laboratory exercises. Vehicle manufacturer service and maintenance procedures are investigated in lab activities. This course has an accompanying lab. Prerequisite(s): ATC 103  or CHQ 103 , or permission of department.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Describe the basic functions of the automatic and manual transmission.
  2. Contrast between various types of fluids, additives, and sealants.
  3. Interpret fluid coupling operation.
  4. Describe the parts commonly found within the automatic and manual transmissions and identify its function.
  5. Evaluate the inner working of modern automatic and manual transmissions.
