PED 150 Physical Activity Planning and Leadership

Credits: (3)
This course provides opportunities to develop and lead physical education activities for the K-12 student populations. A significant portion of the course is devoted to the development of lesson plans and learning outcomes based on managing information from the National and State Standards in Physical Education. Performance based assessments are conducted by each student for the improvement of their leadership skills. Students will also analyze activity risks and devise safety plans to minimize the emotional and physical risks of activity participation. Prerequisite(s): matriculation in the PED.AS program or permission of instructor.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Summarize the National and State Physical Education Standards.
  2. Develop physical education lesson plans utilizing the cognitive, affective, social, and psychomotor domains of learning with cosideration of the National and State Standards in Physical Education for grades K-12.
  3. Demonstrate, through leading, the ability to implement a basic physical education lesson plan.
  4. Develop safety plans based on appropriate risk assessment of the activities within a lesson plan, the participating population, and the environment.
  5. Recognize the importance of professionalism by respecting professional attire and performing critical formative-based teaching evaluations.
