MET 154 Introduction to CNC Machining

Credits: (3)
This course is an introduction to CNC machining. The class will focus on how to set up CNC machines with appropriate tooling and work holding equipment. Students will learn how to apply G & M codes to create basic CNC programs. In addition, the class will focus on how to use edge finders and set appropriate offsets for the CNC tooling. Two-hour lecture and three laboratory hours per week. Prerequisite(s): MET 131 , Co-requisite(s): MET 151 .

Learning Outcomes
  1. Demonstrate standard CNC machine mechanics including routine maintenance.
  2. Demonstrate different types of CNC tooling and their application.
  3. Understand proper load and unload for the automatic tool changer.
  4. Apply G & M codes to basic CNC programs.
  5. Demonstrate edge finders and appropriate tool offsets.
