BIO 171 Anatomy and Physiology I Credits: (4) First part of a two-semester study of the structure and function of the human body. Topics include homeostasis, basic chemistry, cell structure and function, tissues, and the following body systems: integumentary, skeletal, muscular, respiratory, and urinary. The cat is the primary dissection specimen in the laboratory. This course is for students preparing for Nursing, Surgical Technology, Physical Therapy Assistant, and other health-related professions. This course is inappropriate for students preparing for medicine or dentistry. It does not fulfill the lab science sequence requirement for most Math/Science students, but does fulfill the science elective requirement for Math/Science students. Three lecture hours, two laboratory hours. Students are expected to have mastered high school-level biology, chemistry, and algebra, or the college equivalents.
