EMG 180 Emergency Management Leadership Credits: (3) The Emergency Management Leadership course is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to lead and influence others in the demanding setting of emergency management by increasing their range of skills in a variety of interpersonal areas. Students are taught to clearly identify problems and their root causes in order to be able to determine the appropriate type of decision-making style. Using a suggested process of problem-solving, participants will be able to apply creative solutions to both emergency and non-emergency situations, in an emergency management setting. These skills are then applied to the important issue of managing and developing volunteer resources. Students will learn the necessary skills to make appropriate volunteer assignments, structure programs to maintain or increase the skill levels of volunteers, and motivate volunteers to both maintain readiness and operate effectively during emergency situations. Students may not receive credit for both this course and PSY 211 (no longer offered).
