PHO 170 Studio Lighting and Techniques I

This course is designed to introduce students to the tools and practice of studio photography. Students will be introduced to medium format cameras, digital cameras, tungsten and strobe lighting systems, as well as other lighting equipment. The class will focus on the creation of black and white imagery with projects drawn from the following: advertising, potraiture, fashion, product photography, digital, architecture, and fine art. Students will develop a working knowledge of all the tools of the studio, as well as the ability to work knowledgeably in the crafting of effective lighting of all subject matter. Class time will include lecture, demonstration, critique, and hands-on digital lab and studio instruction. Writing and reading assignments as appropriate to this discipline are part of this course. Students must have a digital SLR camera.  Prerequisite(s): matriculation in the Photography (A.S.)  program or permission of instructor.
