FPT 159 Chemistry for Hazardous Materials Credits: (3)
This course is a study of chemistry related to hazardous materials that may be encountered by emergency responders. This course explores recognition, identification, reactivity, and health effects of the materials identified in the United States Department of Transportation Emergency Response Guidebook. Students are introduced to the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) of fire science and the role the fire service plays in managing risks and hazards in a culture that depends heavily on the commerce and transportation of hazardous materials. Coursework involves independent study as well as collaborative participation in discussions and projects.
