Journalism Minor

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs of Study

The Journalism minor is designed for students interested in exploring the field of journalism and related careers in the media. The courses in the minor are cross-listed as both Communication and English courses as they have a strong emphasis on writing. Courses with either prefix will qualify for completion of the minor, although students intending to transfer to a four-year journalism program should take the course as a Communication course, with the COM prefix. This may make transferring into a four-year communication or journalism program easier.

Students enrolled in the Communication Studies (A.A.)  or the Liberal Arts & Sciences: Humanities and Social Sciences (A.A.) (Contains Transfer Paths)  programs may qualify for the associate in arts degree with the Journalism minor by completing a minimum of 12 credit hours in journalism courses as part of the regular sequence. Students enrolled in a curriculum other than Communication or Humanities may also meet the requirements of the Journalism minor while meeting the requirements of their own curriculum.

Required Courses

All students enrolled in the minor are required to take:

Additional Courses
