The Creative and Professional Writing Microcredential provides key writing skills across creative, professional, and technical genres. It also provides a foundation and pathway for students to apply credits earned in the microcredential towards an Associate of Arts at OCC. Students will develop essential skills that can make them stand out to potential employers, like writing for different audiences, engaging effectively in workplace communication, developing technical writing, and clearly presenting research. Completing the Creative and Professional Writing Microcredential will help students stand out while giving them new skills.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify and utilize appropriate creative, professional, technical conventions in multiple genres, styles, and levels of formality, and for different types of writing and levels of audiences.
  2. Produce written pieces in electronic format across multiple creative, professional, and technical genres that demonstrate creativity and revision practices.
  3. Design coherent documents, organize ideas and research, and understand forms, stylistic conventions, and standard language of the field that meets professional and technical needs of a given context.
  4. Demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving, and interpersonal skills within written and oral communication.

Courses must be completed within the last 5 years to count toward microcredential requirements. A GPA of 2.0 in the courses used for the microcredential is required.
