Electromechanical Technology (CERT)


Today’s manufacturing environment requires highly skilled technicians with advanced skills to specify, integrate, and maintain automated processes. The Electromechanical Technology Certificate program allows students to earn a certificate in one year that is focused on the technical knowledge sought by employers both locally and nationally. Students will learn fundamental electrical, mechanical, and programming skills that will provide the strong foundation needed to be an electromechanical technician.

The program is heavily focused on hands-on learning where students will become proficient in using common electrical diagnostic tools, mechanical assembly tools, and precision measurement equipment to troubleshoot a wide array of electromechanical systems. Basic shop math skills are taught and reinforced throughout the program to provide students with the ability to specify and implement electromechanical systems with confidence. Students will learn to utilize common industrial equipment including pneumatic systems, programmable logic controllers, and motor controllers.  

Graduates of the Electromechanical Technology Certificate program are adequately trained for direct employment in a variety of high demand industries. Those wishing to further their education can return to OCC to complete their Electromechanical Technology AAS degree with all courses included in the certificate applicable toward this future degree.

Mission Statement

The Electromechanical Technology Certificate will provide students with the knowledge and skills related to mechanical, electrical, and control systems required to gain employment in the field of manufacturing, automation, and other similar industrial applications. The college will partner with local manufacturers, service companies, and other entities that manufacture, and/or operate and repair electromechanical systems to optimize program quality and opportunity for its graduates.

  1. Explain how electromechanical systems are constructed and operate.
  2. Diagnose and repair electromechanical systems and components.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to apply common industrial mechanical and electrical components to solve problems in industrial settings.
