As a modern commercial and heavy equipment service repair technician, you will need advanced skills to perform service and maintenance on state-of-the-art vehicles.
Progressive technologies such as driverless vehicles, electronic suspension, advanced radar collision avoidance and guidance, microcomputer-controlled heating and air conditioning systems are increasingly more common within the Commercial and Heavy Equipment industry. Each of these highly technical and integrated systems demand technicians that possess a substantial background in electronic systems and diagnostic procedures.
OCC’s Commercial/Heavy Equipment Service Repair degree program allows students to earn an A.A.S degree while training on the latest computer-based diagnostic test instrumentation. Basic and specialized courses will help students develop a solid foundation in this fast-paced field. Students will actively participate in hands-on instruction on emissions diagnosis and drivability concerns in a laboratory setting. Comprehensive instruction in mathematics, the sciences and liberal arts allow students to develop the diverse skills necessary for advancement in this exciting field. Graduates of the Commercial/Heavy Equipment Service Repair program are adequately trained to seek employment in related fields.
Mission Statement
The Commercial/Heavy Equipment Service Repair A.A.S. program will provide students with the training and understanding related to all electrical and mechanical systems found within the modern Commercial and Heavy Equipment industry. Students will utilize this experience and training to gain employment in careers in local industry and public service organizations. To optimize program quality and opportunity for its graduates, the College partners with local commercial and heavy equipment dealers as well as independent repair facilities.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Diagnose and repair the major electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems used within the commercial and heavy equipment industry.
- Utilize tools and equipment to diagnose and repair commercial and heavy equipment.
- Assess factors that influence successful technicians, including work ethic, punctuality, and accountability.
- Simulate the flow of work with the Commercial and Heavy Equipment industry starting with the customer complaint and ending with customer satisfaction.
- Develop safe and clean work practices within all job environments.
Other Catalog Information
- 400 hours of Work Experience while matriculated must be completed prior to graduation.
- A portion of this program may be delivered off site.
Additional Costs & Considerations
- Students are required to purchase a tool set by the start of their second semester. Please see department for tool list.
- Valid driver’s and commercial driver’s license strongly encouraged.
