Healthcare Administration (A.S.)

The Healthcare Administration A.S. degree introduces students to key principles and concepts in the fields of health professions management, business administration, economics, and health information technology in preparation for transfer into a bachelor’s program in Healthcare Administration, Healthcare Management, or related fields. Students wishing to pursue a career in the growing healthcare industry in a management or administrative capacity will benefit from this interdisciplinary degree. Graduates of the program will have a strong foundation in the regulatory and legislative dimensions of the healthcare industry and be prepared to pursue a bachelor’s degree upon transfer to a four-year institution.

Mission Statement

The Heatlhcare Administration A.S. prepares students for tranfer into healthcare adminstration or related majors at baccalaureate institutions. It will also equip students with basic skills for entry-level administrative positions in the healthcare industry.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify and describe administrative and management practices within various healthcare professions and settings.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of theories and practices of ethics and professionalism in healthcare settings. 
  3. Analyze and compare state and federal legislative and regulatory healthcare policies.
  4. Apply skills in health information technology, accounting, and business to solve problems that arise in healthcare administration settings.
  5. Evaluate healthcare documentation in relation to regulatory standards.

Notes:


  1. If student places into MAT 084 , MAT 004 , or MAT 018 , take the math co-requisite model MAT 018 /118  in semester 1 and BUS 102  in semester 2. Move BUS 230  to semesters 3 or 4. If transferring in MAT 118 , but did not place into MAT 114 , take BUS 102  in semester 1.
  2. If students transfer to other SUNY institutions, all courses listed as electives can be transferred.
