Construction Management (A.A.S.)


Today’s construction projects require careful planning and management to ensure successful completion. Graduates of the Construction Management (CMG) A.A.S. degree will learn the fundamental skills needed to be valuable assets in the building trades. CMG graduates will work with a diverse team of individuals including architects, construction laborers, engineers, and stakeholders to complete quality projects on time, on budget, and in a safe manner.

As a CMG student at Onondaga Community College, you will receive a solid background in the liberal arts and sciences in addition to the technical courses in your field specialization. This broad base of knowledge will allow you to communicate effectively, adapt as workplace skills and needs evolve, and be better prepared to deal with a diverse work culture.

Mission Statement

The Construction Management program will provide the foundational knowledge needed to successfully implement construction projects for both commercial and residential customers. Students will learn the properties and usage of construction materials, interpretation of construction project requirements, development of construction estimates, and creating and managing a construction schedule. Students will learn to work with a diverse set of customers in an ethical and professional manner. Successful graduates of the program will be prepared for employment in the building trades field.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate the ability to communicate in a professional manner with a client through the development of writing skills, public speaking skills, and mastery of a variety of media and software applications.
  2. Demonstrate the application of professional responsibility and ethics in construction management in accordance with current professional codes, laws, and regulations.
  3. Analyze construction documents, including contracts, drawings, and specifications and create estimates and timelines based on those requirements.
  4. Evaluate construction materials to best specify and procure materials within project constraints and the construction contract.
  5. Apply construction management fundamentals to successfully manage the delivery of construction projects within the contractually defined delivery system by completing a project on time, on budget, of desired quality, and in a safe manner.

  1. MAT 114  Intermediate Algebra with Applications is recommended for students requiring additional mathematics support.
