FRE 201 Intermediate French I Credits: (3)
This dynamic course draws upon previously acquired knowledge, while introducing students to more complex grammatical and lexical structures to further develop communicative proficiency and cultural knowledge. The course is conducted mostly in French. Upon successful completion of FRE 201, students may enroll in FRE 202 . This course also fulfills the Global Awareness requirement at Onondaga.

Learning Outcomes
- Listening comprehension:
- Follow a class conducted almost entirely in French
- Demonstrate an understanding of a native speaker who speaks clearly
- Demonstrate an understanding of the main idea of selected audio or videotapes at the appropriate level
2. Speaking:
- Pronounce well enough to be understood by a native speaker with little difficulty.
- Express personal ideas and basic opinions, based on life experiences, readings and videos
3. Reading:
- Demonstrate and understanding of ideas in text selections and excerpts from authentic, non-complex newspapers, magazines and short stories, written for a wide audience
4. Writing:
- Answer questions or react to videos, texts or other readings, using short, simple answers
- Write compositions on assigned topics, including giving opinions and making recommendations
- Use basic linguistic, grammatical and idiomatic forms with little difficulty while developing skills for the use of more complex structures
5. Cultural Information
- Demonstrate an understanding of the fairly complex cultural and social issues of the French-speaking world
- Identify the cultural differences among various French-speaking countries
- Compare cultural and social issues with the student’s own society
