WLD 123 Gas Tungsten Arc Welding I Credits: (3)
This course covers the theory and use of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), including non-ferrous and ferrous metals, in the flat and horizontal positions. Topics include safety procedures, equipment set up, shut down, gas selection, positions, materials, and applications. Students will learn to make quality shielded metal arc welds through hands-on muscle memory training and testing. 1 lecture hour and 4 lab hours per week are required. This course requires a set of tools/supplies, if not already owned, to be purchased by the student and brought to the first class.
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge of the theory and operation of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW).
- Demonstrate knowledge of safety standards for GTAW and common metalworking equipment.
- Understand the properties of common materials and filler metals used in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding.
- Execute Gas Tungsten Arc Welding on ferrous and non-ferrous materials in the flat and horizontal positions.
