ASA 227 Overview of Addiction Services Credits: (3) This course includes an overview of chemical dependency services including: prevention, intervention, case management, referral, treatment and recovery. The history and evolution of treatment will be discussed including terms and concepts related to theory, research and practice of treatment approaches, including faith-based and non-traditional approaches. Basic concepts of social, political, economic, and cultural systems and their impact on substance use and abuse will be discussed. The developmental stages of recovery, treatment planning, ethical decision making and trauma-informed care will be covered. The course will also cover assessment, evaluation, treatment planning, aftercare and client payor systems. Prerequisite(s): ASA 150 and ASA 159 , or permission of instructor.
