ASA 269 Individual Counseling Skills for Chemical Dependency Counselors Credits: (3) This course is designed to provide entry level chemical dependency counselors the basic concepts of substance abuse and addictions individual counseling, including: clinical terms, treatment models, ethical issues, substance classifications, effects and associated dangers, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning, theoretical approaches and medication assisted treatment. In addition, the course will teach basic counseling skills including: motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational enhancement therapy, relapse prevention, and family systems theory. Counseling individuals about vocational-related issues will also be explored. Prerequisite(s): ASA 150 and ASA 159 , or permission of instructor.
