ART 213 Painting I

A studio course concerned with the study of acrylic and/or oil painting medium and its applications to the various techniques of traditional and non-traditional painting. All techniques discussed and demonstrated will be applied to concentrated studio projects. Prerequisite(s): ART 101  and ART 102  or permission of instructor.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Discern and render value, hue and intensity as they relate to the visual aspects form, texture and space
  2. Manipulate the paint medium in a purposeful and intuitive manner exploring various approaches and methods
  3. Place imagery within the framework of the picture plane as well as demonstrating an understanding of various design concepts
  4. Create appropriate surfaces for painting from such materials as paper, canvas and wood panel
  5. Discuss (with professional terminology) and evaluate the student’s and other’s work as well as demonstrating and understanding of constructive criticism and self-analysis
