ART 213 Painting I Credits: (3) A studio course concerned with the study of acrylic and/or oil painting medium and its applications to the various techniques of traditional and non-traditional painting. All techniques discussed and demonstrated will be applied to concentrated studio projects. Prerequisite(s): ART 101 and ART 102 or permission of instructor.

- Discern and render value, hue and intensity as they relate to the visual aspects form, texture and space
- Manipulate the paint medium in a purposeful and intuitive manner exploring various approaches and methods
- Place imagery within the framework of the picture plane as well as demonstrating an understanding of various design concepts
- Create appropriate surfaces for painting from such materials as paper, canvas and wood panel
- Discuss (with professional terminology) and evaluate the student’s and other’s work as well as demonstrating and understanding of constructive criticism and self-analysis
