ATC 223 Hybrid, Electric, and Alternative Fuel Vehicles Credits: (3) The course is designed to introduce the student into the theory and systems applications of modern hybrid, electric and alternativefuel vehicles, hydrogen and natural gas. All vehicle systems will be covered, HEV Technology, Hybrid Engines and Transmissions, Electric Machines, Power Inverter Systems, DC-DC Converter Systems, Hybrid Braking and Steering Systems, and Battery Pack Technology. Emphasis in laboratory is placed on vehicle systems and safety. This course has an accompanying lab. Prerequisite(s): ATC 116 or CHQ 116 , and ATC 205 .
Learning Outcomes
- Identify all HEV vehicle systems.
- Perform all HEV Vehicle and battery maintenance.
- Explain the theory and application of all Hybrid vehicle technology and components.
- Perform sensor and actuator tests to determine device status using manufacturer approved methods.
- Demonstrate the ability to work on vehicle electric motors.
- Demonstrate an understanding of various industrial batteries, i.e., lithium, lead acid.
